 Installation Instructions

Forward Controls/Peg Extensions

(Under Construction)

Tools needed:

  • 14mm socket or wrench
  • 10mm open end wrench
  • needle nosed pliers
  • 8mm or 5/16" Allen wrench
  • 9/64" Allen wrench

Shifter Side
  • Remove the stock shifter linkage. Note that there is a LH and RH thread. LH thread is toward the front of the bike. The jam nuts will need to be loosened with the 10mm open end wrench.
  • Remove the stock foot peg and bracket using 14mm socket or open end wrench.
  • Install extension bracket. use the black 10mm x 25mm socket cap screws. Use an 8 mm or 5/16" Allen wrench and torque to factory specs.
  • Install the foot peg and shifter on the extension bracket using the stainless 10mm x 25 mm socket cap bolts and a washer for each bolt.
  • Install extended shifter linkage. The LH thread will have a marker. Install the aft end first.. about one rotation Clockwise. Now you can install the forward end to the shifter peg.
Note:  Some bikes may require that you adjust the shifter spline for the shifter link to fit properly. Remove the shifter spline clamp bolt to facilitate the removal of the shifter spline and rotate it about three grooves CCW.  Reinstall the clamp bolt for the shifter spline and torque to factory specs.  Be sure to tighten the jam nuts once you have properly adjusted the shifter linkage.

Brake Side

1.  Remove the cotter pins from both the fore, and aft, end of the stock brake linkage. Remove the pin from the aft end of the link first.
2.  Remove the stock foot peg and bracket.
3.  Remove the brake light switch from the stock position. Place the protrusion on the brake switch bracket in the detente on the peg extension. Use the 8-32 (it's the small one) socket cap screw to secure.  Some brake switch brackets will need to be bent slightly to accommodate the proper angle for the switch to return to the open position.
4.  Install extension bracket. Use the black 10mm x 25mm socket cap screws. Use an 8 mm or 5/16" Allen wrench and torque to factory specs.
5.  On the stock peg bracket you will notice a small tab that holds the spring for brake tension. This needs to be tapped-in with a hammer or you can use a pair of Vise Grips. This will allow the peg bracket to mate with the extension properly.
6.  Install stock bracket/peg to extension using the chrome 10mm x 25 mm socket cap bolts and a washer for each bolt.  Torque to factory specs
7.  Install the extended brake linkage forward end first and secure with new cotter pins. Adjust the rear brake pedal if needed.

Completed shifter side installation

The shift linkage has both LH and RH  threads. There is a small marker on the linkage that indicates the LH thread.

Under certain circumstances, you may have to adjust the shifter spline. Rotate it 2 or 3 grooves counterclockwise.

On the stock peg bracket you will notice a small tab that holds the spring. This needs to be tapped-in with a hammer or you can use a pair of Vise Grips. This will allow the peg bracket to mate with the extension properly.

While you're at it, remove, clean, lube, and reinstall this bolt.

If you need a little more tension on the brake, you can adjust here. Give the nut 2 or 3 rotations CW.

With a cocktail in one hand and a wrench in the other, you will have the proper balance and courage to complete the installation.

Take care and ride safe,
